Cellers Avgvstvs Forvm has recently renewed the SWFCP (Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection) sustainability certification for the coming years, reaffirming our commitment to responsible viticulture and sustainability across all areas of the winery.

The winery first obtained this certification in 2024 and, with this renewal, the commitment remains valid until 2028, consolidating the work carried out in sustainability over recent years.

WHAT IS THE SWFCP SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATION?

The Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWFCP) certification is a scheme specifically designed for the wine sector, promoted by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), which sets out the criteria a winery must meet to be recognised as sustainable.

This certification framework assesses wineries’ commitment to sustainability across four key pillars: environmental, social, economic and governance.

Its objective is to promote continuous improvement in winery management by encouraging practices that reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency and strengthen corporate social responsibility within wine companies.

In addition, this label is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has become one of the most widely recognised sustainability certifications in the wine sector.

In the case of Avgvstvs Forvm, the certification has been audited by Bureau Veritas, an international organisation specialising in inspection, certification and verification.

The winery first obtained this certification in 2024 and, with this renewal, it will remain valid until 2028, reinforcing the work carried out in sustainability over recent years.

A COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

The renewal of the SWFCP sustainability certification until 2028 reflects Avgvstvs Forvm’s determination to continue progressing towards a model of viticulture that is increasingly respectful of the environment and the surrounding territory.

During the 2024–2026 period, the winery implemented several improvements that contributed to this renewal. These include reducing the weight of glass used in some wine bottles and lowering electricity consumption through investments in energy efficiency.

In terms of water management, the winery has upgraded its wastewater treatment system by centralising it at a single point and installing a sequential treatment plant, enabling the water to be properly treated and safely reused after processing.

Furthermore, the winery has strengthened its responsible purchasing policy by establishing agreements with suppliers who also promote sustainable practices in their processes, products and services, thereby integrating sustainability throughout the entire value chain.

These initiatives form part of a broader set of actions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the winery’s operations and promoting more efficient resource management.

Sustainability is now a key factor for the future of the wine sector, and also for us, as we work every day to maintain a balance between tradition, innovation and respect for the Penedès landscape.

In this context, it is also worth highlighting a historic milestone for our region: DO Penedès has become the first designation of origin in the world with 100% of its harvest certified as organic. This achievement, reached with the 2025 harvest, marks a significant step forward in Avgvstvs Forvm’s commitment to more sustainable viticulture.

A FURTHER STEP IN OUR JOURNEY TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY

The renewal of the SWFCP sustainability certification adds to other recognitions that reinforce our commitment to responsible tourism and production, such as the recent renewal of the Biosphere certification, which recognises companies that operate under sustainable tourism criteria.

This recognition consolidates the work we have been promoting at Avgvstvs Forvm for years to integrate environmental, social and economic criteria into the way we work, both in the vineyard and in the winery.

At Avgvstvs Forvm, we understand sustainability as an ongoing process. Each certification, project and improvement helps us continue moving towards a more responsible, efficient and forward-looking model of viticulture, committed to the future of our region and the wine sector.
