Once again, the most anticipated moment on the winemaking calendar is here. And in 2026, it arrives earlier than ever. Next Tuesday, August 4th, we will kick off the harvest at Avgvstvs Forvm with the arrival of our first Chardonnays.
Once again, the most anticipated moment on the winemaking calendar is here. And in 2026, it arrives earlier than ever. Next Tuesday, August 4th, we will kick off the harvest at Avgvstvs Forvm with the arrival of our first Chardonnays.
Never in our history have we started this early. The climate conditions of recent years are accelerating the ripening process, but the performance of the vines this year gives us great reason for hope.
Following the long and harsh drought of recent years, generous winter rains did their job, allowing the soil to recover remarkably well. The vines responded by growing vigorously, producing lush canopy foliage and a healthy crop of grapes.
It is true that the final stretch of the growth cycle turned dry again and that recent heatwaves—with sustained temperatures around 40°C —complicated the fruit’s final development stage, accelerating ripening. Nevertheless, the water reserves stored deep in the soil sustained the vines, yielding grapes of wonderful visual appeal and exceptional health. Everything points to a harvest of extraordinary quality, albeit in smaller quantities than projected a few months ago.
Following the Chardonnay—our winery’s primary variety—the Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia de Sitges, Macabeo, and Xarel·lo will follow close behind. Furthermore, we expect to harvest part of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot designated for our flagship Primer Rosat before the end of August.
Looking ahead to early September, it will be time for the Grenache, as well as the Cabernets and Merlots meant for red wines, along with Sumoll: a benchmark indigenous variety for tackling climate change thanks to its high acidity, which brings unique freshness and aging potential to our wines.
An intense period of work awaits us in the cellar, but it is undoubtedly the finest time of the year: a season to enjoy crafting and dreaming about all that is to come. Everything is set for a campaign that could prove historic. This could be a year of truly great wines!
