Japanese artist Wataru has returned to Avgvstvs Forvm to unveil a piece that symbolises connection, spirituality and continuity: ‘Pyramid of Heaven’. The work, constructed using the traditional dry-stone technique, is part of a large-scale project involving twelve pyramids that the artist hopes to create between Japan and Catalonia.

Japanese artist Wataru has returned to Avgvstvs Forvm to unveil a piece that symbolises connection, spirituality and continuity: ‘Pyramid of Heaven’. This work, built using traditional dry stone techniques, is part of a large-scale project involving twelve pyramids that the artist wants to create between Japan and Catalonia. The one at our cellar is the second to be built in Catalonia and the third in the entire series, representing another step in a shared journey that blends art, territory and friendship.
The ‘Pyramid of Heaven’ is much more than a structure: it is a point of union between heaven and earth. According to Wataru, its function is to channel the energies of the universe towards us all, helping us to flow and reconnect with the world around us. Its presence in the winery creates an energetic bridge with the other pyramids in the project, conceived as interconnected nodes distributed between Catalonia and Japan.
The work is constructed using dry stone, a technique characteristic of the Penedés region, and iron, a combination that provides solidity, authenticity and full integration into the landscape. With this new piece, he reaffirms his desire to highlight both local culture and its dialogue with contemporary creation.
The inauguration of the ‘Pyramid of Heaven’ celebrates a relationship that began in 2000, when Japanese artist Wataru arrived at the winery for the first time. Since then, the Japanese artist has created several works that can still be seen on the premises, consolidating a bond built with the same solidity as the stones of his pyramids: mutual respect, shared creativity and a deep love for the land and for art in all its forms.
